# Fruške Terme, Vrdnik: LV and MV installations and fire alarm

ADD Projekt d.o.o., an electrical engineering firm from Novi Sad, installed the low- and medium-voltage systems and the fire alarm system at the Fruške Terme hotel and spa complex in Vrdnik, a spa town on Fruška Gora in Vojvodina, Serbia. Our engineers hold contractor licences for low- and medium-voltage power installations.

## Project at a glance

- **Client:** Fruške Terme hotel and spa complex
- **Location:** Vrdnik, Fruška Gora (Vojvodina, Serbia)
- **Building type:** Hotel and spa complex
- **ADD Projekt's role:** Installation of power systems
- **Installations:** Low voltage, medium voltage, fire alarm

## A hotel in the spa town of Vrdnik

Fruške Terme is in Vrdnik, on Fruška Gora in the Srem region of Vojvodina. A complex of this type brings accommodation, catering and leisure facilities together in one place.

A hotel has many different electrical loads, and its guests do not know the building. That is why hotels pay particular attention to a reliable power supply and to the fire alarm system.

## Three groups of work by ADD Projekt

At Fruške Terme, ADD Projekt installed the low-voltage installations, the medium-voltage installations and the fire alarm system. Installation here means that the contractor fits and connects the systems and equipment on site according to the detailed design (PZI in Serbian practice) and prepares them for commissioning and technical acceptance.

- Low voltage covers power distribution up to 1000 V inside the building, from distribution boards to lighting, sockets and equipment.
- Medium voltage connects the building to the distribution grid and supplies the transformer substation, from which low voltage is distributed.
- The fire alarm detects fire early and alerts staff and guests.

## The usual order of work in a hotel

On hotel projects, electrical and fire alarm installation usually follows this sequence. The list is general and does not describe the details of this project.

- Review of the detailed design (PZI) and coordination with other contractors on site
- Laying medium-voltage cables and installing the equipment that supplies the building
- Installing main and sub-distribution boards and low-voltage feeders
- Lighting, emergency lighting, sockets and power supply for kitchen, pool and HVAC equipment
- Fire alarm system: control panel, automatic detectors, manual call points, sounders and interfaces with other systems
- Testing, functional checks and commissioning
- As-built design (PIO) and documentation for technical acceptance

## Where the same combination comes up

Low voltage, medium voltage and a fire alarm together are a common scope on larger buildings open to the public, where many people are present at once and high-power equipment is in use:

- Hotels and spa complexes
- Wellness and spa centres
- Holiday apartment complexes and tourist facilities
- Restaurants and conference venues
- Mixed-use buildings with public areas

## Frequently asked questions

### What does electrical installation in a hotel involve?

Fitting and connecting the low-voltage installations (in larger buildings also medium voltage), together with low-current systems such as the fire alarm. That means distribution boards, feeders, lighting and emergency lighting, sockets and the power supply for kitchen, pool and HVAC equipment. The work follows the detailed design and ends with documentation for technical acceptance.

### Does a hotel need its own transformer substation?

Not always. It depends on how much power the building needs and on the connection conditions set by the distribution system operator. Larger hotels with pools, a wellness centre and a professional kitchen use a lot of power, so they are often supplied from medium voltage through a 10/0.4 kV substation.

### Can the fire alarm be installed together with the electrical installations?

Yes, and in new buildings this is common. When one contractor handles both the power installations and the fire alarm, cable routes, the panel power supply and interfaces with other systems (such as shutting down ventilation) are easier to coordinate. At Fruške Terme in Vrdnik, ADD Projekt installed both the low- and medium-voltage systems and the fire alarm system.
